Based on the film titles and box cover, those familiar with the wonders of the Something Weird catalog already know what to expect from this "kitty krime double feature" - dubious plotlines, poorly delivered dialogue and / or random acts of nudity and / or softcore sex. Possibly with some go-go dancing and / or stripping thrown in for good measure. Not so coincidentally, our first feature features all of the above. Plus the dubbing is kind of ridiculous. I believe the second feature features all of these things as well. Except for the go-go dancing / stripping. Instead it has a boring orgy. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Kitten In A Cage tells the nonsensical story of Julie, a girl with a fabulous haircut and sassy trench coat, during what she claims to be "the most insane day of her life." Seems to me like a young lady who finds herself in any one of the situations Julie winds up in on any given day probably has quite a few insane days under her belt already (and more on the way) but I suppose sanity is in the eye of the beholder. It seemed sanity was in the eye of the beholder when our unfortunate lass was admitted to a mental hospital against her will. Or maybe it wasn't. Maybe there was something much more sinister at the root of this mal-hospitalization. Something to do with the sleazy dude Julie works for, a handful of missing precious (or at least semi-precious) jewels and a mermaid statue. Or at least that's what the viewer will be led to believe by the end of the film, and being led to believe things is pretty much as far as the scriptwriter was willing to go with this one so we have to take what we can get. The Girl From Pussycat has slightly more in the way of linear plot, slightly being the operative word. The story revolves around an all girl crime syndicate whose likes include brazen daylight bank robberies; wearing sheer hiphugger panties, but not wearing bras; and having sex with anything that moves, including each other. Sounds relatively promising right? (Truthfully it kind of sounds like the plot for an Octavio WinkyTiki porno.) Sadly, it's not as promising - or salacious - as it may sound. But towards the end of the film two of the girls gang up on the boyfriend who threatened to rat them out and punish him via toaster; not really something to look forward to per se, but at least it was more fun to watch than the orgy scene. In case that's not enough fierce feline fodder for you, the DVD is rounded out by no less than four short films and six trailers (eight if you count the original trailers for the two featured films), each appropriately themed. Or at least with an appropriate title. Meow.
