Satan's Baby Doll has been billed as a remake of Malabimba The Malicious Whore, although "loose interpretation" would be a more appropriate description. The plotline does share similarities but, in many ways, they're completely different films and are probably best viewed as such. (Although when the two titles are released at the same time, and sent out together for review, it's almost impossible not to compare.) One thing both versions share is that the action revolves around a seemingly innocent teenage girl who has recently lost her mother. Among other commonalties - both girls have domineering horny fathers, large mansions to roam around in and a foxy nun who shares a "special bond" with the girl. Ahem. Actually, the ahem-ing part doesn't really get going, in either film, before the possession but now I'm getting ahead of myself. See, what happens is, the aforementioned young lady and her aforementioned dead mother are somewhat quickly reunited when the now vengeful and angry spirit of the mother takes over the body of her daughter in order to have her do her bidding. (Read: seduce and kill all those who wronged her and, you know, just kinda generally reconnect with anyone else she slept with while she was alive who might still be hanging around.) Meanwhile, all sorts of other nefarious activities are going on in the expansive family domicile. The father's bad habits include shooting dope, abusing his handicapped brother and verbally assaulting the resident nun. He'd sexually assault her too but, like most junkies, he's all talk and no action. (By the way, during the '70s did Italian families actually used to have hot nuns who lived in their houses, or is it just these films?) When not being yelled at by his brother, the handicapped guy spends his spare time spying on the hot nun while she reclines in her bedroom, clad in white panties and white thigh high stockings. (A combo seen previously in Malabimba and since in many a Motley Crue video.) Like everyone else in the house apparently, he is warm for the nun's form but due to the combo of him being a paraplegic and her being married to god, he can't do anything about it. (Although it is implied he had a sexual relationship with his brother's wife and then later he gets head from his niece while she's possessed by the spirit of her dead mommy so I guess some things still work. BTW if I understand the story correctly, for the purposes of this movie at least, we are to believe that Italians think god is female; as the nun is clearly a lesbian.) Anywhoo, as you may imagine, all of this nonsense can't go on forever - thankfully - so, eventually, all of these various branches of our story come together in one, dare I say it… yeah, sure why not… I mean, we're here… climactic ending. Which isn't so much a climax as it is an ending. It also bears noting that while this version is somewhat racy, as compared to say a nun movie starring Whoopie Goldberg, in comparison to it's predecessor's accurate X-Rating, this is quite tame. Overall this is a fairly standard Italian nunsploitation flick, which is cool if you're into that sort of thing.
