The Curious Dr. Humpp
[Something Weird Video]

1971; b&w

Directed by Emilio Vieyra

Starring: Ricardo Bauleo, Gloria Prat, Aldo Barbero, Susana Beltrán & Justin Martin

Within the first few memorable moments of this film, featuring the two-for-one chloroforming (possibly ethering) and kidnapping of a couple necking in the woods, The Curious Dr. Humpp establishes itself as one of the most curious sexploitation imports we've reviewed on the Buffet to date. (And considering the Kommandant's unofficial official quest to see every movie featured in the Something Weird intro reel, it is curious that we had not seen, or reviewed, this film previously.) To elaborate on the opening sequence, the first thing we really see in the film, besides the credits, is a pair of slowly shuffling feet making their way through the grass to who knows where. Now, I can't speak for the rest of you, but the first movie related thing I associate with a pair of slowly shuffling feet making their way through a grassy knoll - especially if those feet are wearing some sort of cheap Doc Marten knockoff footwear and the legs attached to them are wearing black peg legged pants - is Frankenstein. Or at least a Frankenstein monster of some sort. And, while I suppose these clearly mind controlled masked men could be considered monsters of some sort, suffice it to say, Dr. Humpp is no Dr. Frankenstein. (And the guy who plays Dr. Humpp is no Peter Cushing!) Of course we won't meet Dr. Humpp for a little while so let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. After we see the couple so deeply engrossed in their make-out session share a three way kiss with a white cloth soaked in some sort of knock-out substance, we see the same boy and girl being placed into some sort of hearse / station wagon type vehicle. They are then driven off by a pair of these curious non-Frankenstein Frankenstein hooded monsters and off we go. Into the next scene that is, which is a seemingly pointless lesbian softcore sex scene. That is until another, even cheesier looking more grotesquely masked monster shows up to spoil the party. This scene is followed by one featuring an obviously impaired fella getting the white rag treatment; followed by a scene of a woman masturbating to a wall full of "beefcake" images who also gets interrupted by a dude with a weird looking head. Then it's off to a hippie pot orgy where… oh, you get the drift. Eventually we wind up at Casa De Dr. Humpp, which is exactly the type of place you'd expect it to be. Well, maybe you wouldn't expect it to be a sprawling compound filled with a wide variety of kidnapped horny people who are slowly being turned into a mindless race of super horny people by an evil doctor who needs the libidinous life giving fluids to continue his life as an evil doctor. But I did. As you may have already guessed, this is not your normal "horror" movie, nor is it your normal "porn" movie. In fact, it kind of fails to deliver on both promises but in retrospect, what you wind up with in between is so over the top in it's ridiculousness that you don't mind. Too much. And when you do, there's always the fast forward button to take you to the next hilarious scene - like the one where one of the evil monster dudes attempts to woo the captured stripper turned nymphomaniac with a moonlight lute solo.
