Keeping with the tradition established in the first two sequels, Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter starts off recapping what happened in the previous movies. In this case we have the scene from part 2 - which, conveniently, also includes clips from the original movie - where the camp counselors are all sitting around the fire while head counselor dude entertains the crowd with the story of the life and untimely death of Jason Voorhees. Just to make things more confusing, they intersperse these flashback scenes with death scenes from part 3. After this dada-esque sequence the credits roll and we find ourselves at the scene of Jason's "death" from the previous film, replete with ambulances, spinning police lights and CSI types putting evidence in baggies. Jason's body is removed from the crime scene and taken to the local hospital, where he's dropped off in the morgue. Seems like even the most maniacal serial killer couldn't get into much trouble in a room full of already dead people but, fortunately for Jason & the viewer, the morgue turns out to be where the interns go to have sex. Unfortunately for the two young wanna be doctors in lust, Jason's busy undead hands make for quite a cockblock and neither of them get laid one last time before dying. Next we're introduced to the full range of potential victims
uh, I mean characters
that will carry us through the rest of the film. There's a young Corey Feldman, who lives in a remote location near Crystal Lake with his mom and sister; and the prerequisite traveling group of teenagers (the only one I recognized was a young Crispin Glover) looking for good times in the form of booze, drugs, premarital sex, or any combination of the three. As it turns out the teens destination is the house next to Corey's house, which is owned by one of the group members' parental units. The following day, the teens decide to go skinny dipping in the lake. Corey and his sister happen upon their birthday suit bathing session but don't stick around, as they plan on spending the remainder of the afternoon clothed and dry. After that, their car breaks down and a mysterious, hunky (by mid-'80s slasher movie standards) stranger happens across them. He fixes their ride so they take him back to their place where he befriends Corey and flirts with Corey's sister. Over at the party house, drinking games, foreplay, and awkward dancing have become the evening's activities. One lass decides to spice up her evening with a second dip in the lake at which point we all know, as sure as there will be a part five, that she will be the first of the group to die. But certainly not the last! In fact, her boyfriend gets offed moments later. Sometime during this killing the hunky stranger, who is now camping out in the woods solo, hears screams and goes to investigate. When he returns to his site, he finds his gun broken and his map shredded. Hmmm, who could be responsible for this vandalism? Rowdy teens? No wait, it couldn't be them; they're too busy screwing, smoking pot and watching stag films. And dying. Meanwhile, there's some questionable activity going on at the Corey house. The power is out and Mom can't locate either of her offspring, nor the family dog. She heads outside to investigate and that's the last we see of her. One of her children can totally be accounted for though, she's in the hunk's tent learning of his personal connection to Camp Crystal Lake - apparently his sister was a past victim of Jason's - and subsequent plans for revenge. While this is going on Jason is picking off house partying adolescents one by one. (Poor Crispin Glover gets stabbed in the hand by a corkscrew before receiving a machete to the face; he did get laid one last time before dying though.) Once the group has been properly disposed of, it's time to head next door for a proper game of cat and mouse. Hunk winds up hacked to death, leaving sis & bro to fight Jason for their respective lives - and a role in part five - for the remainder of the film. Which they do. I'm not gonna give you a concrete answer as to who survives and who does not but, rest assured, if you miss anything, you'll get caught up to speed during the first ten minutes of the next one.
